How the sand estimate works

Volume is area times depth. Sand runs roughly 1.35 tons per cubic yard, though it varies with type and moisture, so treat the weight as an approximation. Bedding sand under pavers is usually about 1 inch, while bedding for a sandbox or base layer may be deeper.
